Would you like to bring the past into the future?
Stockport Council’s Local Heritage Library are looking for volunteers to help add more of the historic image collection to the Stockport Image Archive.
Currently around 60,000 images are held within Stockport Council’s Local Heritage Library, giving a fascinating insight into all aspects of life in Stockport from the late 1800s to the present day. From Public Houses to Churches and Festivals to Transport, the archive is a valuable resource for historians and public alike.
Whether you are studying a particular period, or would like a piece of history on the wall of your home or business, the Stockport Image Archive will be available to you. With this new online service you will be able to choose photographs and have high quality reprints delivered direct to your door.
With so many original photographs in our collection we rely on the help of volunteers to constantly update the archive. We are looking for people who would be able to come to the Local Heritage Library and scan the photographs ready for the archive. With information about the contents of the images also having to be recorded, we are looking for people with an eye for detail and a passion for local history.
Although some knowledge of computers would be useful, there will be training given on how to scan the images. This is an opportunity to see the collection first hand, and view unseen and archived photographs that will be of great interest to those with an enthusiasm for photography.
We require volunteers for as little or as long a time as they feel they can give. If you are interested and would like further information, please call into
Stockport Council’s Local Heritage Library.
