Over the years, Stockport Council's Local Heritage Library has built up a collection of around 60,000 images of Stockport. The images date from the late 1800s to the present day and  cover the borough of Stockport and surrounding areas.

The Stockport Image Archive is constantly being updated and the task of adding images to the archive ongoing. Stockport Council’s Local Heritage Library, ICT Development Team and many Stockport volunteers have helped to create this online archive. If you are interested in volunteering to help update the Stockport Image Archive then please get involved. 

When searching the Image Archive you can enter a search term and/or choose one or more localities along with different keywords. You then have the choice of viewing the results in a list, which will show specific information for each photograph, or a grid format which will simply display the photographs. Clicking on the thumbnail will increase the size of the image.

We hope you enjoy this system and browsing the pictures of old and new Stockport.
