SUMMARY OF IMPORTANCE/CRITERIA DECISION
The early 19th century building is of local historic interest as a former silk mill, remodelled for the offices of The Stockport Advertiser in the early 20th century. The elevations make a positive contribution to the street scene.

HISTORIC ASSET DESCRIPTION
The building was constructed in the early 19th century as a silk mill, and the High Street elevation remodelled for the Stockport Advertiser in the early 20th century. It is constructed of hand-made red brick to the rear yard elevation, with bright red brick with stone details to the High Street frontage. The roof is Welsh slate, hidden behind a plain parapet on High Street. The 2-storey 8-bay front elevation is articulated with pilasters and recessed bays for each first floor window, with open pediments over every third bay. Ground floor openings are all segmental-headed, first floor windows have flat lintels, with semi-circular headed windows below the pediments. All windows are late 20th century replacements.
The 4-storey rear elevation has segmental-headed small-pane windows, lower part of wall has been partly re-built.
